ABOUT 

First Generation Leaders of America (FGLA) was founded in 2015 by a CPS Woodward graduate that wanted to help at-risk youth become resilient leaders who can overcome the obstacles of life. Our founder attended the University of Cincinnati for 4 years studying political science and liberal arts. FGLA is a 10-month holistic mentoring program that mentors kids 7-18. We provide in-school & after-school programs ( leadership development, career, anti-bullying, & entrepreneurship) that connect kids with mentors to equip them with the essential tools to navigate school, career, entrepreneurship, and life.

​Our programs are driven to help reduce incidents of crisis, crime, and school costs by supporting under-resourced schools with relatable and relevant mentors who can provide in-school intervention. We provide tailored mentoring programs for non-profits, group homes, public, private, and charter schools.

​BUDDIES NOT BULLIES WORKSHOPS

Our bully proof workshops works will all grade levels k-12. Through our workshops, students learn all about empathy and why they should care about the way others feel. Students watch videos, play games, participate in activities, share their experiences, and listen to others on their journey toward true care and empathy.This will help students explore the different types of bullying.

Frederick Douglass Elementary and See it. Believe it. Achieve it! Mentoring Program has worked with FGLA for over a year using their Millennial Mentoring Services. During this time, Mr. De’Voe Sherman and his staff were professional, punctual, committed, reliable, conscientious, and relatable to our students. Mr. Sherman has an intuitive understanding of people which makes him especially effective in relating to staff members, students, and community liaisons.

 The mentors took the time to build a rapport with the students and made a positive difference in their lives. We are looking forward to starting another school year with Mr. Sherman and his phenomenal staff.  

Roll Hill Academy​

First Generation Leaders of America showcases and builds upon students’ character strengths through an innovative mentorship approach. Near-peer role models provide guidance and growth through an evidence-based curriculum that yields high results in participating student self-esteem and a growing self-cognizance of the power of behavior, actions, and words. First Generation Leaders of America looks to build upon their success by providing their valuable services to some of our most at-risk students of all. With this in mind, First Generation Leaders of America is looking to expand to other schools. Any support that can be offered to this program will lift students up to new heights and provide for meaningful mentorship paving a road towards student empowerment.
